About Wordle
Wordle is a free, unlimited Wordle game that runs in your browser. A secret five-letter word is hidden and you have six tries to find it. After every guess the tiles change colour to show which letters are in the right place, which are in the word but in the wrong place, and which are not in the word at all. There is a new daily puzzle for everyone, plus an Unlimited mode so you can keep playing as many rounds as you like. This Wordle is an independent game and is not affiliated with The New York Times.
It is part of our collection of 16 free word games, inside a library of 706 browser games you can play without installing anything.
How to Play Wordle
- Press Play Now and type any real five-letter word, using your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter.
- Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot. Grey means the letter is not in the word.
- Use the colours to narrow down the answer. Each new guess must be a valid word, and you can use what you learned to build the next one.
- Find the hidden word within six guesses to keep your streak alive. Come back tomorrow for a new daily puzzle, or switch to Unlimited mode to play more right now.
- Share your result as a grid of coloured squares. It shows how you solved it without giving away the word.

Tips and Tricks for Wordle
- Open with a word that has common letters and different vowels, such as CRANE, SLATE or ADIEU, to learn as much as possible from guess one.
- Use your second guess to test new letters instead of repeating yellow ones in the same position.
- Think about letter patterns. Many five-letter words end in -ER, -ED, -LY or -IGHT, and some letter pairs like TH, CH and ST appear often.
- Remember that a word can have repeated letters. If one copy of a letter is yellow and another is grey, the word contains that letter only once.
- Switch on hard mode in Settings if you want a challenge: every hint you uncover has to be used in your next guess.
- Turn on colour-blind mode in Settings to swap green and yellow for orange and blue.

Wordle-style play: daily puzzle or unlimited
The official Wordle gives you one puzzle a day. This Wordle keeps that familiar format and adds a choice. Use the Daily tab for the shared puzzle of the day, which is the same for every player, or switch to the Unlimited tab for a fresh random word the moment you finish the last one.
Unlimited rounds never touch your daily streak, so you can practise new starting words and strategies freely. Hard mode, dark and light themes and a colour-blind palette are in Settings, and nothing needs an account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an unlimited Wordle?
This Wordle is a free Wordle-style game with an Unlimited mode. Switch to the Unlimited tab for as many random five-letter words as you like. The official Wordle from The New York Times has one puzzle a day, and this Wordle is a separate, independent game.
Is this the official Wordle?
No. This is a free, independent Wordle-style game, but if you like Wordle you already know how to play. You get six tries to find a five-letter word, with green, yellow and grey tiles, plus unlimited rounds, hard mode, a colour-blind palette and shareable results. It needs no account.
Can I play Wordle-style games unblocked at school or work?
This Wordle is an ordinary web page with nothing to install. Whether it opens depends on the filter on your school or work network, so we cannot promise it will load everywhere.
What is the best starting word?
Based on the answers in this game, ALERT, LATER, IRATE, AROSE and STARE share letters with the most answers. Any opener with common letters such as E, A, R, O and T and different vowels is a good choice.
How do you play Wordle?
You have six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word. After each guess the letters turn green if they are in the right spot, yellow if they are in the word but in the wrong spot, and grey if they are not in the word.
When does the daily word change?
A new daily puzzle starts at midnight in your own time zone. Everyone gets the same word on the same calendar day, so you can compare results with friends.
Can I play more than one puzzle a day?
Yes. Switch to Unlimited mode at the top of the game for as many random words as you like. Unlimited games do not change your daily statistics or streak.
Is this Wordle affiliated with The New York Times?
No. It is an independent word puzzle in the same genre. This Wordle is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to The New York Times, and it has its own design, word handling and daily schedule.
Do I need an account, and are my stats saved?
No account is needed. Your streak and statistics are saved in your own browser. They stay there until you clear your browser data for this site, so they will not follow you to another device.
What is hard mode?
Hard mode is an optional setting. Once a letter is revealed as green or yellow, your next guesses must use it: green letters stay in place and yellow letters must appear somewhere in the word.
Why is my word not accepted?
Every guess must be a valid five-letter English word from the game's word list of almost 13,000 words. Names, abbreviations and very unusual words may be rejected.
Is Wordle free to play?
Yes. It is completely free, runs in your browser and needs no download, installation or sign-up.
